MESSAGE: ‘THE SEASON OF FAILURE.”
Luke 5:1-11

Verse 4 – Put out into the deep water and let down the nets for a catch.

LESSONS FROM THIS STORY

1. You can give things your best shot and still come up short.

2. We must realize that God is interested in your success.

3 PRINCIPLES TO HELP US BOUNCE BACK

I. First principle appropriate God’s presence in your life.

Verse 3 – He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon.

Questions: Does God have access to your job?

Is He able to minister to others through your job?

The Sequence: Peter used his boat for Christ, then God took care of his need.

Matt. 6:33 – Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things shall be added unto us.

II. The second principle cooperate with God’s presence in your life.

Verse 4 – Put out into the deep water and let down the nets for a catch, because you say so, I will let down the nets.

Peter’s reaction:

• He didn’t argue.
• He didn’t hesitate.
• He was eager to cooperate.

Psalm 37:34 – Wait for the Lord and keep His way. He will exalt you to possess the land.

III. The third principle is we have to expect God to act.
Verse 5 – Peter said, because you say so.

II Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises.

Verse 6 – They caught such a large number of fish, that their nets began to break.

Verse 7 – So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them and they came and filled both boats so full, they began to sink.

Try again, this time with Jesus in the boat!
