BUILDING A CHURCH TO REACH TODAY’S GENERATION
LOVE, THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF THE CHURCH
I Corinthians 13 – 14:1

I Cor. 14:1 – Make Love Your Greatest Aim.

The Priority Of Love

1. All that I say is ineffective.
Verse 1 – If I speak in the tongues of men and/or angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

Eph. 4:15 – Speak the truth in love.

2. All that I know is incomplete.
Verse 2 – If I have the gift of prophecy, and can an fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, but have not love, I am nothing.

I Cor. 8:1 – Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

3. All that I believe is insufficient.
Verse 2b – And if I have faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

Gal. 5:6 – The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

4. All that I give is insignificant.
Verse 3a – If I give all I possess to the poor, but have not love, I gain nothing.

5. All I accomplish is inadequate.
Verse 3b – If I were burned alive for preaching the Gospel, but didn’t love others, it would be of no value whatever.

The Practice Of Love

1. Love is a choice and a commitment.
Duet. 30:20 – Choose to love the Lord your God, and commit yourself to Him.

2. Love is an action, not an emotion.
I John 3:18 – Let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.

3. Love is a skill.
I John 4:7 – Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of God, and that they are getting to know Him better.

I Tim. 4:15 – Practice these things and devote yourself to them, in order that your progress may be seen by all.

4. Love is a habit.
Heb. 13:1 – Continue to love each other with true Christian love.

Luke 6:32 – If you only love those who love you, what credit is that to you?

John 13:35 – Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another.”

HOW TO BECOME GREAT AT RELATIONSHIPS
1. I must commit to growing.
2. I must learn how Jesus did it.
3. I’m going to practice my skills.
4. I’m going to develop the habit.
5. I’m going to trust God to help me.

Phil. 1:9 – This is my prayer for you: that your love willgrow more and more; that you will have knowledge and understanding with your love.
