CREATING A HEALTHY CHURCH
“HEALTH GROWS HEARTS LIKE JESUS”
Mark 16:15 – Jesus said to His followers, ‘Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good New to everyone.’
HOW CAN I HAVE A HEART LIKE JESUS?
1. Care about what Jesus cares about.
Eph. 5:2 – Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who love you and gave Himself to God as a sacrifice to take away your sins.
• Jesus cares about the whole world.
Matt. 9:36 – When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
• Jesus cares about the Church.
Eph 5:25 – Christ loved the Church and gave His life for her.
Matt. 16:18 – I will build My Church, and all the powers of hell will not be able to defeat it.
2. Be indifferent to what Jesus is indifferent to.
Luke 9: 59-62 – Jesus said to a man, ‘Follow Me!’ But the man said, ‘Lord let me first go bury my father.’ Jesus replied, ‘Let the dead bury the dead! Instead, you go everywhere and tell about the Kingdom of God.’ Then another man said, ‘I’ll follow you Lord, but let me first go home to my family.’ Jesus said, ‘Anyone who begins to plow a field but keeps looking back is of no use in the Kingdom of God.
• Jesus was indifferent to impressing others.
John 5:41 – Your approval or disapproval means nothing to me.
• Jesus was indifferent to getting rich.
Luke 12:15 – Life is not measured by how much one owns.
3. You must get angry about what Jesus gets angry about.
Eph. 4:26 – Be angry without sinning.
• Jesus gets angry when the needs of children go unmet.
Mark 10:13-14 – People brought children to Jesus, hoping He might touch them, but the disciples scolded them. When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said, ‘Don’t push these children away! Don’t ever get between them and Me. These children are at the very center of life in the Kingdom.
• When the suffering of others is ignored.
Luke 11:46 – Jesus said, ‘Woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.’
4. We have to sacrifice for what Jesus sacrificed for.
Mark 8:35 – If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life.
