Five Fatal Mistakes

1. Avoid the wrong emphasis in life.

He placed financial prosperity above the spiritual prosperity of his family.

Genesis 13:10 – Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered.

Verse 11 – Lot chose for himself.

Matthew 16:26 – What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world yet forfeits his soul (or his children).

2. Avoid the wrong environment.

He expected his family to live in Sodom but not to live like Sodom.

Genesis 13:12 – Lot pitched his tent near Sodom

CYCLE OF LIFE

First you choose your environment about sin.

Second you develop an association about sin.

Third you have an attitude about sin.

Fourth you reap the results of sin.

3. Avoid the wrong expectations.

He thought if he got involved with that society he would change it.

Verse 19:12 – Do you have anyone else?

4. Avoid the wrong example.

Expected his family to accept his words instead of his life style.

Verse 19:14 – But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

Your Christian life-style Monday through Saturday is more important than an Amen on Sunday.

5. Avoid the wrong entanglement.

Verse 19: 15-16 – With the coming of dawn the angels urged Lot saying, hurry . . . When he hesitated the men grasped his hands.
